Audio Painting is an ongoing series of abstractions of my earliest experiences with music. The first instrument I learned to play was the piano. Instead of being taught traditional skills of reading music notation or playing by ear, I learned to play “by sight” using visual memory of where and when my fingers went on the keyboard. Audio Painting attempts to reconcile music and sound as a visual expression by turning to video.
Audio Painting I and Audio Painting II are video pieces which are created from audio input into a feedback loop and output as a video signal.
Audio Painting III is a performance video. While listening to an audio track in headphones the video was filmed using an endoscopic camera surveying the inside of the homemade system built for Audio Painting I and II.
